WHAT IF I ONLY HAD…?

“WHAT IF ONLY I HAD ...?”

Is there such a thing as TOO LATE?

MAYBE NOT FOR YOU!

You may have regrets over paths not taken leading to ...

WHAT YOU THINK MIGHT HAVE BEEN.

HOWEVER,

Accepting what IS can very well be as good or better than what you imagine might have been.

For example here is one of my What Might Have Been true stories:

It happened in 1988. I was a great deal younger when I refused an offer of a lifetime to have one of my created characters join Superman as a regular in Superman comics.

It was a period before Time Warner (now merged with  AT&T) when the Warner part was a stand-alone company known as Warner Brothers (Bros.). Besides being a movie studio it also published DC Comics that included and featured Superman. It’s the Superman part that involves my true story.

Super You ... A White Boy-Child Superman?

The play, the musical and the rhyming stories were all known as SUPER YOU which were my creations. Super You, could be either a young boy or girl of any color and ethnic background and was produced both as a straight play and as a musical resulting in the events I am about to describe.

I was asked to create a special edition of SUPER YOU for the Jerry Lewis muscular dystrophy telethon. SUPER YOU and company (in full costume) were invited to appear in a special, charity program at the Barnum & Baily Circus held in Madison Square Garden, New York City. All of which happened many years ago.

All of the above is a lead-in to Super You, Superman and me.

I was introduced to the president of DC Comics at a 1988 Warner Brothers Saint Patrick’s Day party in New York. I discussed Super You with him and he, at a later meeting, was interested in owning Super You for DC Comic Books. There was one major problem for me, resulting in my turning down his offer. He wanted to turn Super You into a child Superman.

At first I was excited about the offer. Super You would become a regular feature in the Superman comics. Then there were the possibilities of Super You TV and movies. Of course, there would be the fame and money. And so (at the request of the president whose name escapes me) I composed, in rhyme, the Strawberry Jam Dam and illustrated the child character Super You as a, proposed, child Superman.

DC Comics wanted Super You. That’s when my reality set in. Super You was to become a young, white boy, miniature Superman. That was not what I had created. I intended Super You to be any young boy or girl of any color. Was I about to sell out? I decided that was exactly what I would be doing and turned down the DC Comics Super You, child Superman offer.

To this day do I have any regrets? Not for one moment, in all these passing years, have I thought What if only I had... The answer is a definite NO!

Life has offered me other rewards not one of which I have weighed against the Super You offer. The bottom line is that, with all of its ups and downs I have discovered that a good and rewarding life is what one attempts to make for oneself regardless of circumstances. I know that sounds rather trite but, for me, it’s true. It could be true for you as well.

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

Does a missed opportunity in your past affect your thinking about today? Do you feel that you are unable to recognize opportunity if it presents itself. Do you think it is just about money?

THERE SHOULD BE ONLY ONE GOAL IN YOUR LIFE!

One?

One!

That goal should be to make yourself as happy as possible ... as long as it is not at the expense of others.

Let Me explain:

It is called realistic happiness. Here is an example:

Hey Bob,

I lost my job, my car wont start and my wife is threatening to leave me along with her awful mother who has been living with us and driving me crazy. How and where do I find realistic happiness?

                                        -Unhappy Stan

Hey Stan,

Be happy that your awful mother-in-law is leaving.

Good luck,

Bob

If you have trouble finding happiness let me know your problem and I will try and help you at...
